Acupuncture & Herb Q & A

What is Acupuncture?
It is the placement of hair thin needles (unlike the hollow hypodermic needles used in hospitals) gently under the very surface of the skin. Placing these hair thin needles at the carefully chosen, specific points on the body will trigger the release of the body's own chemicals and hormones, which can restore physical and emotional balance to the patient's health.

Herb

Herbal medicines has been an integral part of Oriental Medicine. The natural, active components in these medicinal plants work synergistically with our bodies and are very effective with many disharmonies " diseases". Besides treating disharmonies, herbal medicine can strengthen the immune system to withstand future "evil" pathogens. This preventive care is done in a more natural, less aggressive way leaving no undesirable side effects.

Our herbal pharmacy has a variety of herbs, herbal formulas. Your treatment will be based on the whole pattern of illness. This include your age, lifestyle, emotions, diet, and internal organs.

*Both acupuncture and Chinese herb has proven its effectiveness throughout the ages on both curative and preventive level.*

Is Acupuncture safe? Is it painful?

As a comprehensively trained acupuncturist, your safety is assured. I use only sterile, disposable needles that are very thin and smooth ( not hollow with cutting edges like hypodermic needles) and insertion is virtually painless. Some patient may experience a sense of "heaviness" around the area of insertion, but no discomfort once a needle is in place. Most patient find treatment very relaxing. We use only sterilized, individually packaged disposable needles. Our client's safety is assured. Some people may experience a "heaviness" around the insertion area, but no discomfort once a needle is in place. Most patients find the treatments very relaxing.

What should I do to prepare for Acupuncture treatment?
Following these few simple steps will help you obtain the maximum benefits of the treatment
1. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, or bring comfortable clothing to change into. Women should avoid wearing tight stockings.
2. Avoid taking treatment when you are extremely fatigued or hungry.
3 Stay relaxed.

After an interview (this includes pulse taking and tongue observation) and arriving at a diagnosis the treatment will then be performed. The needles are usually retained for 35 minutes, while you relax. Other modalities may also be used to attain quicker results such as moxibustion therapy, electro acupuncture, and auricular acupuncture.

First visit generally can take 1 - 1.5 hrs; subsequent visits are usually 1 hour duration

How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the nature, duration, and complexity of the conditions. For acute cases: one treatment may only be needed to get immediate results. For complex or chronic cases: one or two treatments per week for several months may be suggested.

What can I expect after treatment?

Patient often experience the most dramatic results after 3-5 treatments. Some patient experience an immediate total or partial relief of symptoms. As in many cases of healing, the patient's attitude, diet, determination, and lifestyle will also affect the outcome of a treatment course.
